How to Clean Foam Mattresses

Cleaning your foam mattress shouldn’t be difficult. In fact, if you know the proper steps, you can perform an excellent cleaning of your Calgary mattress with minimal hassle. Therefore, you should make sure that you understand the steps necessary for the cleaning, and keep in mind one straightforward fact.

The fact of the matter is that the nature of the material used to create foam mattresses is delicate when exposed to certain chemicals found in cleaners. Therefore, before you go willy-nilly spraying chemicals on your Calgary mattress, make sure that you have the right cleaner because otherwise, your bed may experience adverse effects.

Usually, this cleaner will be a soft detergent mixed with water, but it will depend on the exact type of foam mattress you are cleaning.

3 Step Method For Cleaning Foam Mattresses

Step 1: Vacuuming

The first step to cleaning your mattress is to bust out the vacuum to collect any debris trapped on the surface. For maximum results, use a fine-brush extension on your vacuum, and ideally, use a handheld vacuum cleaner for ease of use during cleaning. Remember to vacuum the other side as well, but it is generally thought that you should thoroughly clean one side before beginning on the next.

Step 2: Spray Cleaning

The next step is to fill a spray bottle with your cleaning solution. For most foam mattresses, you can use a gentle fabric cleaner, and mix it with water. Vinegar and isopropyl alcohol are also good options, and the mix ratio can generally remain about 2:1 for the water.

While spraying your mattress, remember not to soak it. Soaking the mattress can increase the likelihood and spread of mildew or mold, so small amounts applied evenly is usually the best application method.

Step 3: Deodorizing

The final step in cleaning your foam mattress is to deodorize it. Use baking soda and lightly cover the top of your mattress. Leave it for an hour or so, and then come back and vacuum off the remainder. Again, for maximum results, this should occur immediately after you have sprayed your cleaning solution as it will help pick up the solution.

And that’s it—the simple, 3-step process required to clean most foam mattresses. Remember, the cleaning solution must not contain toxic or harmful chemicals, as it will affect your mattress. Happy cleaning, and enjoy your like-new mattress!
