Stain on matress

How To Remove Stains From Mattresses

Your mattress is exposed to a lot: sweat, crumbles, liquids, oils and more. Add in a little dust, mites and dander; you can see why you need to clean your mattress.

Especially when it comes to stains.

Stains can be detrimental to your mattress. Once a stain sets in, that’s it, it’s there for life (at which point you require a very deep, professional clean from a mattress store).

So what do you do when your mattress has a stain? This step-by-step breakdown should help you when it comes to removing stains from your mattress

How to Clean Your Calgary Mattress

Strip the Bed

Start by stripping your bed sheets and tossing them into the washing machine while working on the mattress itself.

Vacuum the Mattress

Grab your vacuum cleaner and vacuum down your mattress, including the top, sides and underneath. It would help if you also vacuumed between the bed and the box springs.

Create a Cleaning Solution

Now, the cleaning solution varies, depending on the stain that you are removing from your mattress. Note the differences between each stain:

  • For urine and sweat stains, create a cleaning solution made up of 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide, three tablespoons of baking soda and just a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap.
  • For vomit stains, the mixture is a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar.
  • For bloodstains, all you need is 3% hydrogen peroxide.

Spray the Mattress, Let It Soak & Wipe It Down

Spray the spoiled area of the mattress, then let it soak for a few minutes. This helps ensure that the solutions get in deep. When the spray has dried, start to wipe it down until the blot disappears.

Repeat & Repeat

If the blot isn’t gone, then continue spraying, before wiping it down again. You might have to do this a few times, depending on the type of stain.

Sprinkle Baking Soda

Sprinkle a little bit of baking soda over the treated area and let the mattress air dry for an hour or so (this is only for blood and vomit stains).
