Our mattresses are one of the most important pieces of furniture in our homes. They serve us well, ensuring we get a good night’s rest and wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed. Unfortunately, a time will come when they begin to show signs of ageing, such as sagging or loose springs.
Therefore, the next step becomes finding the new destination for your mattress to head to. Since it’s such a large item, simply throwing it out may seem like a waste. Can You Donate Mattresses?
First, determine the status and condition of your mattress. If it has signs of wear and tear, such as rips, stains, or other damage, it’s unfortunately unlikely that anywhere will take it.
Since we sleep on our mattresses every day, it’s safe to say it contains its fair share of dead skin cells, germs, bacteria, and other unwanted elements. Due to health and sanitization laws, beds have to be sanitized before being resold, and many local thrift stores do not have the resources to tackle such a job. Therefore, many refuse even to accept mattresses.
Additionally, generally speaking, old mattresses aren’t exactly encouraged for others to buy.
However, if your mattress is still fairly new and is free of any major defects or concerns, consider reaching out to local charities or non-profit organizations. Mattresses in Calgary may be able to be donated to Women in Need Thrift Stores or the Calgary Drop-in Centre. Ensure you call in advance to confirm that they do take mattresses, as many organizations refuse them.
